12Gb Hard Drive Netbooks
A 12Gb hard drive in a netbook will probably be a solid state hard drive beening it is shock proof and your computer will boot up really quickly. You'll be able to store some photos and music on this drive - but netbooks with solid state drives work best when you keep stuff online (with the benefit that you can access it from any computer, anywhere)

More Information
There are two types of netbook hard drives. Solid state hard drives are smaller, usually under 16Gb in size. They are fast and boot up very quickly. Solid state hard drives don't have any moving parts - so are shock proof. Optical hard drives are larger - anything up to 250Gb - and cheaper. They do have moving parts, and can be affected by movement, but you'd have to really bang it around to have much of an effect.
