Google Chrome LogoGoogle have announced plans to build an operating system, based on Chrome browser, for use on Netbooks. The OS will make the best use of the netbooks resources to provide fast access to the internet where users can use the growing proliferation of online applications.

Google say the new Chrome OS will offer the following benefits for netbook users:

  • Low power consumption meaning more time between charges
  • Easy install
  • It’ll be free

The OS will be based on Linux and will be ready to ship in late 2010.
